Drama

Each year, the Dramatic Society presents a full scale production which sometimes takes the form of a musical, in collaboration with the Music Department. In recent years a number of productions have been undertaken - these include Daisy Pulls it Off, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Under Milk Wood. School productions are often entered into the Wharfedale Festival of Theatre and Drama Competition.
In addition, Drama is available on activities afternoon; the nature of these sessions varies from improvised and devised drama to the performance of texts. Students are encouraged to take part in short plays or improvised drama during morning assemblies, in their lunch break, or as part of informal evening entertainment.
At Bradford Girls' Grammar School we encourage students to experience and appreciate live theatre. In addition to attending theatre performances both locally and further afield, pupils have the chance to take part in backstage visits and workshops. The school participates in the 'Playhouse Partners' scheme at the West Yorkshire Playhouse and have excellent links with other 'Theatre in Education' groups.
Speech and Drama training takes place at lunchtimes. Pupils have the opportunity to take LAMDA qualifications in acting and reciting poetry and prose. Every year a large number successfully achieve the highest possible results up to and including gold medals at Grade 8.
