EXTRA CURRICULAR

Variety, Challenge and Enjoyment.

It is part of our philosophy to encourage all girls to explore and develop their talents and the academic curriculum is supported by an excellent extra-curricular programme that offers wide-ranging and challenging opportunities for all students.

We offer:
- 17 different sports ranging from athletics to volleyball in which teams and individuals regularly reach the National finals of competitions. The school holds the Sportsmark Gold in recognition of the exceptionally high standard of our provision.

- Drama and dance classes that culminate in productions ranging from Shakespeare to musicals, from modern dance to classical, and which, through connections with the Northern Ballet and the Wharfedale Festival, enable girls to perform at the highest levels.

- The opportunity to participate in a variety of musical activities ranging from the steel pans group to the orchestra. In addition, tuition in singing, music theory, and 11 different musical instruments is available. Regular concerts and music festivals, both in and outside school, provide confidence and encouragement in performance.

- Art workshops where girls work with professional artists to develop high level skills in painting, textiles and ceramics.

- Engineering clubs, where the challenges can range from constructing sailing boats, designing and making cars, building and operating Daleks, are met with enthusiasm and considerable ingenuity. As a result students regularly achieve success at Young Engineers’ competitions at both regional and national levels.

- Awards schemes such as CSLA, Young Enterprise, and Duke of Edinburgh, which encourage girls to develop their individual talents in leadership, to use their initiative in challenging situations and to work effectively within teams.

- A host of trips and visits complementing the work done in school, ranging from theatre visits to study days, from exchange visits for language students to sports tours to all parts of the world.

Fundamental to the success of the entire programme is the way in which our girls respond with an enthusiasm and commitment that achieves remarkable results for the school, but, more importantly, as with the academic curriculum, enables each girl to realise her own unique potential.
