Lady Royd Preparatory School and Nursery

The Governors and the Headmistress are delighted to announce that a brand new State of the Art Preparatory School, linked to Bradford Girls’ Grammar Senior School, opened in April 2008.

A full survey of the current use of all the buildings led to the decision to move the existing Preparatory School including Nursery and Kindergarten to a new purpose built extension to the main school building.

Funded by the sale of Lady Royd house, the Preparatory School will continue to deliver excellent education; in addition, its numbers will be expanded to include both boys and girls aged from 2 – 11 years.  The children will benefit from the brand new accommodation which will ensure that their education is supported by the very best facilities.

The link to the senior school building means that the preparatory school can make greater use of facilities such as the swimming pool, the sports hall and the specialist teaching areas for the older children.  It includes new hard and soft play areas as well as the landscaping of the grounds to feature a habitat and conservation area.

Lady Royd

The Name ‘Lady Royd’ has been connected with Bradford Girls’ Grammar School for almost 80 years.  But, of course, Lady Royd is more than a name.  For generations of pupils it has been the launch pad for many educational opportunities that have opened doors to rewarding and challenging careers. It is with mixed emotions that the Governors have decided to move the Preparatory School into brand new accommodation. 

To commemorate this we have produced a ‘History of Lady Royd’ booklet, which is available to purchase directly from Bradford Girls’ Grammar School.
