Pastoral Care

We pride ourselves on valuing the girls as individuals

Part of our success in enabling girls to thrive in the Sixth Form is the attention we give to personal support. Our tutorial system is based upon small groups of students who share a similar range of subjects. They meet together on a weekly basis and individual support and guidance is further ensured by daily contact with the tutor.

The tutors maintain a monitoring role throughout the two years and provide essential expertise in helping students to make decisions about application to Higher Education, preparation of UCAS forms, and planning for gap years and careers. In this they are supported by specialist career staff, and contacts with a wide variety of outside agencies.

Our pastoral programme also ensures that students are developing the skills they will need in the future. The advantage of a sixth form attached to a main school is that the students act as role models for younger girls, and we find that they do this with considerable enthusiasm and commitment; supporting tutors in junior classes, leading orchestral, dance and drama groups, sports teams, acting as buddies for dyslexic pupils and providing support in maths and language workshops, and the sixth form charity week is a highlight of the school year! These are all excellent ways of developing not just leadership skills, but organisational and interpersonal skills too.

Working with staff and peers is also an essential part of preparation for the future, as well as ensuring a happy and thriving community.
