Early Years & Foundation Stage (EYFS)

Within the Lady Royd Early Years Department, a programme of carefully planned activities stimulates natural curiosity in a safe and caring environment. We provide every opportunity for each child to develop self esteem and confidence. A confident child who has a sense of his/her own worth will go on to achieve in all areas. Our aim is that each child in our care has this excellent start in life.
Pre-Preparatory (3 – 4 years)
The Nursery and Kindergarten occupy a self-contained unit within Lady Royd Preparatory School. Pupils may join Nursery and Kindergarten on a full or part-time basis.
There are three colourful activity rooms; a quiet room for rest periods; a secure garden and an outdoor play area providing a happy, stimulating and safe environment. Good use is made of the school grounds, woods and wildlife areas in both play and learning.
In both the Nursery and Kindergarten, each child is allocated a key worker who is responsible for planning and assessing their progress. A variety of activities and experiences allows each child to develop at his/her own pace in all the key areas identified in the Early Years Programme.
Transition (4 - 5 years)
Through structured play and activities in small groups, pupils learn phonics, writing and numeracy skills. They have an exciting range of topic based activities, educational visits and experiences. Specialist teaching in music and physical education starts at this age and a range of extra curricular activities is on offer after school. Good use is made of the gym and hall for soft play, drama and dance.
Children move up to our Preparatory School in the September after they turn five.
