Lady Royd Preparatory School & Nursery

About

Our aim in the Preparatory school is to develop the abilities of each individual to the full by providing a wealth of experiences and opportunities to stimulate and motivate the pupils.

In the early stages, we focus on literacy and numeracy as part of a highly structured curriculum which goes beyond the requirements of the national curriculum. Small classes and first rate facilities ensure that each child receives a generous amount of attention. In a warm and secure environment children learn with confidence, creativity and focus.

Specialist Teaching

Pupils benefit from specialist teaching in Music and Physical Education from the age of five. As pupils move through the school specialist teaching is introduced in other subjects and good use is made of subject facilities in both the Preparatory School and Senior School.

Teachers present subject matter in imaginative ways, employing a wide variety of teaching styles and resources which capture each child and encourage children to think for themselves, to question and debate.

Stimulating trips and residential visits compliment the curriculum and add to the vibrant, exciting and challenging learning environment.

The dedicated teachers are committed to bringing out the best in each individual and we work hard at promoting a child’s self esteem. Our staff ensure they know each child in their care. They make time to talk to her, share her interests and encourage her to fulfil her potential. Good manners, consideration for others and success are nurtured and rewarded.

Extra Curricular Activity

Members of staff give generously of their time to provide an extensive extra curricular programme. Sporting and musical clubs are numerous and pupils gain enormous confidence from performances in dramatic productions, concerts, assemblies, sports matches, festivals and both local, regional and national competitions. Pupils are encouraged to take responsibility for others both within the school community and in the wider world. The School Council takes an active part in the day to day running of the school as well as contributing to the development of initiatives and the organisation of charity events.

Visitors remark on the happy relaxed atmosphere within the school . Pupils are proud of their school and their achievements and relish the opportunity of hosting guests and leading tours to prospective parents and pupils. They are frequently complimented on their articulate and confident manner.

The school welcomes close parental involvement and parents readily support school activities and organise fundraising events.

After School Care

An after school club is available for those pupils who need to stay beyond the end of the school day and holiday sports clubs and art workshops operate during main holiday
periods.

Nutritious home-made lunches are prepared by our catering staff who cater for a variety of dietary needs. Breakfast is available in the morning and many pupils and parents visit the cafeteria at the end of the school for a snack before embarking on an extra curricular activity.
