Transport for pupils

Working in conjunction with Rail and Bus Companies

The Girls' Grammar School is working in conjunction with the rail companies in order to offer an integrated transport service to get pupils from across the region to school using the area's railway network. This scheme sees children arrive by train, at Bradford Forster Square Station, where a school minibus collects the pupils and delivers them safely into the school grounds.

The scheme, which has been designed to assist parents, has additional benefits including reducing congestion on the roads and promoting green issues relating to traffic pollution.

Routes from across West Yorkshire including the Airedale line, which runs from Skipton, and the Wharfedale line from Ilkley are included in the scheme.

Bradford Forster Square Station was singled out as the collection point from a safety point of view as it is a large, well lit station, is manned during the day with by Rail Company representatives and has an area at the front of the station where the minibus can collect.

In addition, it seemed the obvious choice as it links the Aire Valley and Wharfe Valley lines and is only 10 minutes away from school.

Even though we are based in Bradford we have a very wide catchment area, with pupils attending school from all over the county. More and more parents from further afield are expressing an interest in sending their children to us and obviously transport is a real issue. We are constantly aware of the difficulties facing parents due to heavy traffic congestion and are confident the transport options on offer will be a great help.

Eleven buses are already in action, offering direct travel to and from the school. From as far away as Huddersfield, Halifax, Ilkley, Keighley, Hebden Bridge, Dewsbury, Cleckheaton and Leeds. Also the school has extended existing services to include minibuses to reach Baildon Village, Otley, Pool in Wharfedale, Yeadon, Cullingworth, Rawdon, Oxenhope, Haworth and Oakworth.
