GCSE results 2023

24 August 2023

Pupils celebrate significant success in their GCSEs.

After much study and preparation, our Year 11 pupils collected an impressive set of GCSE results, demonstrating significant dedication to their studies over the last two years.

Academy attainment overall is higher than in 2019 (the last comparable set of data) showing that the school is recovering well from the effects of the pandemic. Attainment is higher than National across a wide range of subjects, including English, Maths and Science and the proportion of 9-7 grades awarded is higher than both 2022 and 2019.

The proportion of pupils achieving 9-7 grades in both English and Maths has increased for the second time since 2019.

Subjects with particularly impressive results include Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Textiles where 100% of pupils achieved grade 5 or above.

80% of pupils studying Biology attained a grade 7 or above and over 50% of pupils studying Chemistry achieved at least a grade 8.

While all pupils have done incredibly well, there are some standout individual achievements. Seven pupils achieved grades 8 or 9 for every GCSE qualification that they took.

Rachael Howarth, Interim Head said:
“I am delighted for our Year 11 pupils.  Despite GCSE grading returning to its pre-covid pattern, our pupils, who still faced pandemic–related disruption, achieved excellent results which reflect their hard work and their determination to succeed. I am delighted that they will now have the best possible choices for their post 16 destinations and look forward to hearing about their future achievements.”
